Business and Labor Leaders Join Forces Across California, Demand Congress “Get Back to Work” on Comprehensive Immigration Reform

As House members return from summer recess, coalition releases new data showing reform with path to citizenship will boost local economies

Sacramento, CA – As Congress returns to the nation’s Capitol today following the summer recess, a coalition of business, labor, civil rights, and community groups are urging House members to put immigration reform with a path to citizenship at the top of their agenda for action this session. In 11 events across California, the broad coalition of unusual allies will call on House members to “Get back to work” on a comprehensive immigration reform bill that is critical to the nation’s economy.

At each event, the coalition will release new data showing immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship will boost local economies and create jobs. The Senate has passed legislation that would help local communities and economies flourish by drawing on the skills, talents, and economic input of every Californian. But House Republican leaders have so far ignored the strong majority of Americans, including both Republicans and Democrats, who support a comprehensive approach, refusing to bring a reform bill forward for a vote.

Statewide, over 150 businesses have signed a letter to Congress supporting immigration reform with a path to citizenship, noting that the current system fails to provide stability for families and businesses alike. Many small businesses are also showing their support to customers and clients by displaying a poster stating, “This Business Supports Immigration Reform with a Pathway to Citizenship.” In addition, more than 70 Chambers of Commerce around the state, representing more than thousands businesses, have endorsed comprehensive immigration reform.
