International Worker’s Day is Opportunity to Raise Collective Voice in Hope; Defend Progress Made

Sacramento, CA – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California released the following statement from SEIU California President Laphonza Butler on International Worker’s Day:

“This May Day, the hard-working people of SEIU California, immigrants and non-immigrants alike, are proud to speak out in one voice for all Californian’s patriotic values of sacrifice, hard work, and devotion to this nation that they embody.  We vow to relentlessly advance those values and project hope for the future of our state, for all California children, and all our neighbors.

“As long as workers have been exploited by greedy employers and scapegoated by opportunistic politicians, workers have found strength in our state’s thriving and diverse labor movement.  Today, with unprecedented attacks on workers and their organizations from a corporate-driven White House, California’s labor movement and all our communities must stand shoulder to shoulder to defend the progress we have made in securing fair wages, health care, and opportunities for our next generation.”
