Sacramento, CA – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California today announced the 700,000-member union’s early re-election endorsements of Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Controller Betty Yee.
“Workers’ votes are our voices and Secretary of State Alex Padilla is committed to make voting accessible for all communities and ensuring our voices are never silenced,” said David Garcias, President of SEIU Local 221. “As the child of a short-order cook and a housekeeper, Padilla knows the sacrifices families will make to give their children a shot at a better future. Alex has proudly stood by workers and our families as a lawmaker and state official, fighting to improve education for English learners and create opportunities for affordable college education. I’ll be proud to commit my time and energy to ensure Alex returns to the important post of Secretary of State in 2018.”
“As the children of hard-working immigrant parents, Betty represents the California Dream we are working to make possible for all our families again. That’s why Betty has fought alongside working people to bring down high rates of poverty in our state and ensure communities of color are not left behind,” Yvonne Walker, President of SEIU Local 1000 said. “As Controller, Betty is in a critical position to ensure our tax dollars deliver the highest quality public services, and she’s not afraid to take on the corporations and special interests who would profiteer on the backs of hard -working people.”
