I do the same work as my permanent counter parts and I have the same certifications, but I have no access to pay raises or benefits. At first, the flexibility and wage scale of the Per Diem position was an incentive for me, but over the past years I have seen permanent employees’ pay and benefits increase while my pay has remained virtually the same. It’s a different day for Per Diem and Temporary workers, as a program of employment; we are approaching “Code Blue”. After seventeen years as a Per Diem with no voice at work I see that it is time for our elected leaders to truly study the status of non-permanent employees.
On behalf of my coworkers in Riverside County I urge you to support a statewide audit to ensure that temporary employees are not misused and so that employees are able to provide the most consistent and quality patient care and services possible for all California. Thank you for your time.
